Review redo.
I only wanted a small device to control HA (HS) and media thru XLobby. When it comes right down to it, I really just needed a small gadget with a browser.
I considered a PPC and later, a UMPC. They were just too bulky and PPCs in particular, have lousy screens for viewing standard Web pages. In the meantime, I had been schlepping a 15 1/2 inch laptop around for the purpose.
Someone on Cocoon announced the 770 was avail. on Woot for US$130.00. I checked it out and it seemed perfect. Reviews complained of weak connectivity and slow I'net connections but they seemed to refer to the older mobile OS ver. 5. The new unit ships with 6, so I took a chance.
Fantastic connectivity. Push the connection icon and it quickly finds all visible wireless networks. Select one and it configures the connection and offers to store the config by the network's name or by any name you choose. I don't know what the transfer speed is but it's fast.
buy.com currently offers the 770 for US$140.
Other features include chat, voip thru googletalk and jabber, productivity tools and bluetooth for pairing w/your cell to use it as a modem, etc.
I haven't played with most features yet.
So, I took it to VA yesterday to show the kid Dad's new toy. We were having lunch outside and I flipped it on and hit the connect icon. In a blink, WLANs started scrolling down the screen. I hit the 1st unlocked one, opened the browser to the BBC site to check up on things and it loaded fast.
Happy

Hey nappy-head. Did you have probs last night?
Oh all, in case it isn't obvious, the 770's a touch screen tablet (tabletta?).
