When I tell the router (after changing it to DHCP) to reserve the exisiting addys on my PCs, do I retain the DNS server address on them, or will the router then do that and I should reset each machine to discover the DNS?

I have the router pointed to dyndns.org for the Webcams and other stuff. Does going to DHCP have any effect on that?

TIA

The DNS should remain the same.

LAN DHCP settings should not affect your WAN settings (e.g. dyndns.org ).

I just keep a long lease time on my DHCP settings to keep the addressing easy.

thanks Shawn, I want to do it here to get a feel for it.

It's a dry run for my other place where I want statics for my own machines while having an uber DHCP environment for friends and fam who bring their wireless laptops, etc.

appreciated smile.gif

a thing that puzzles me is that a friend of my son's brought her laptop here a few years ago and was able to surf with no changes to her PC. I've always been totally static here.

I have VERY little DHCP experiance.

Oh Brother....

Static DHCP will not affect non specified MAC addresses. They just wont get one of the reserved addresseseseseses.
