Well summer is definately ON today... Foreacsts for 95 degrees and humid.

HEAT ADVISORY
Warning Issue Date: 454 AM EDT MON JUL 17 2006

...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM TO 6 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TAUNTON HAS ISSUED A HEAT
ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM TO 6 PM EDT THIS
AFTERNOON.
HOT AIR WILL PUSH INTO THE CONNECTICUT VALLEY DURING THIS AFTERNOON.
THIS WILL COMBINE WITH HIGH HUMIDITIES TO BRING VERY OPPRESSIVE
CONDITIONS TO THE ADVISORY AREA THIS AFTERNOON. THE HEAT INDEX...A
COMBINATION OF THE HIGH TEMPERATURES AND HUMIDITY...WILL RANGE FROM
100 TO 103 THIS AFTERNOON.
A HEAT ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN HIGH HUMIDITIES ARE EXPECTED TO
COMBINE WITH HOT TEMPERATURES...RESULTING IN DAYTIME HEAT INDICES OF

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
Warning Issue Date: 605 AM EDT MON JUL 17 2006

...OPPRESSIVE HEAT AND HUMIDITY WILL PERSIST TUESDAY AND MAY COME TO
AN END WITH SCATTERED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND
EVENING...
TUESDAY WILL BE ANOTHER HOT DAY AS HIGHS SHOULD TOP OUT IN THE MID TO
UPPER 90S AWAY FROM THE SOUTH COAST. THESE HOT TEMPERATURES COMBINED
WITH OPPRESSIVE HUMIDITY WILL RESULT IN DANGEROUS HEAT INDICES BETWEEN
100 AND 105 DEGREES FOR A FEW HOURS DURING THE AFTERNOON. THE WORST
OF THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY WILL AFFECT HARTFORD...SPRINGFIELD...
BOSTON...PROVIDENCE AND TAUNTON. HEAT ADVISORIES WILL LIKELY BE
NEEDED FOR THESE AREAS TUESDAY AFTERNOON.
ALONG THE IMMEDIATE SOUTH COAST...IT WILL STILL BE VERY WARM BUT
SOUTHWEST WINDS OFF THE OCEAN WILL LIKELY KEEP HIGHS IN THE UPPER 80S
AND LOWER 90S.
PEOPLE SHOULD FOLLOW HEAT SAFETY TIPS. AVOID STRENUOUS OUTDOOR
ACTIVITIES...ESPECIALLY DURING THE HOTTEST PART OF THE DAY. DRINK
PLENTY OF WATER AND OTHER NON ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES. CHECK ON THOSE
MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE HEAT...INCLUDING THE ELDERLY AND YOUNG
CHILDREN.
IN ADDITION...A COLD FRONT WILL BRING THE POTENTIAL FOR SCATTERED
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. A LINE OF
THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD DEVELOP NORTH OF THE MASS PIKE BY MID
AFTERNOON...REACHING THE COASTAL PLAIN DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND
EVENING. THERE IS STILL UNCERTAINTY WITH HOW THIS WILL UNFOLD BUT IT
APPEARS THAT THE PRIMARY THREAT WITH THE STRONGER STORMS WILL BE
DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WIND GUSTS.

What was that in your WX alert? No adult beverages dry.gif I'll take my chances. See you on the other side biggrin.gif

Just been checking the price of A/C round here - another case of being ripped off here in the UK sadly - unlike your $150 one Ski, the cheapest I can find is a 9000 BTU one for almost £200.00 - reduced from £250.00 - this is a split unit though which I want rather than a floor standing thing like I already have for the studio.

And before you ask, BTU stands for British Thermal Units and NO, I don't know what the equivalent is for you guys, but it doesn't seem very much as it draws less than 1KW @ 230 Volts 50Hz AC

Even my gas grill(e) is rated in BTUs.
I guess it follows that we still use inches, feet, yards...

But back to Ski's original post; for here:
"AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EDT
TUESDAY.

FOR TUESDAY, TEMPERATURES AND HEAT INDEX VALUES SHOULD BE AS
OPPRESSIVE AS THEY HAVE BEEN TODAY. TEMPERATURES WILL RISE INTO
THE MIDDLE 90S TO AROUND 100 AND HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL REACH
AROUND 105 IN THE AFTERNOON. SOME RELIEF MAY COME IN THE FORM OF
AFTERNOON AND EVENING THUNDERSTORMS. THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER
IN NORMAN, OKLAHOMA HAS PLACED THE AREA IN A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS FOR TUESDAY.

TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, THERE WILL BE LITTLE RELIEF FROM THE HEAT
AT NIGHT. TEMPERATURES ARE NOT FORECAST TO DROP BELOW THE 70S
TONIGHT AND THEY MAY ACTUALLY REMAIN NEAR 80 DEGREES IN THE HIGHLY
URBANIZED AREAS WITHIN PHILADELPHIA, CHESTER, JAY'S PLACE IN GLADWYNE, CAMDEN, TRENTON AND WILMINGTON."

Last. Promise smile.gif Despite the 105 feel-like, the RH is only 46. Pretty low for these parts in summer. Looking for a term... the air feels "soft".

Can't quantify it but it's the same feeling I frequently experiance in SC - rarely here. Very hot, but I can go outside to do light work or relax and it's pretty comfy.

...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING...

AFTERNOON HEAT INDICES WILL REACH 105 TO 110 DEGREES ACROSS NORTH TEXAS ONCE AGAIN TODAY.

PERSONS INVOLVED IN VIGOROUS OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES ARE URGED TO TAKE FREQUENT BREAKS AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER OR OTHER NON ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES. WEAR LOOSE FITTING AND LIGHT COLORED CLOTHING. BE SURE TO CHECK ON CHILDREN AND THE ELDERLY AS THEY ARE THE MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. PEOPLE AND PETS SHOULD NEVER STAY IN AN ENCLOSED VEHICLE WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER OFF EVEN FOR A SHORT TIME...AS TEMPERATURES CAN QUICKLY RISE TO LIFE THREATENING LEVELS...EVEN IF WINDOWS ARE PARTIALLY OPENED.

That's actual temperature too.....
