I have a Medion MD6488 laptop which has a DVD reader/CD writer that has died.

I have obtained a direct replacement but am unable to get the damm thing apart fully.

All visible screws have been removed from bottom and rear but there seems to be a pillar somewhere midway under the keypad but I can not see any way of detaching it.

I am not going to force it, but wondered if anyone had experience of taking these apart?

All laptops seem to be nigh on impossible to take apart!

So silly as I have just put a new DVD burner into this machine which took all of two minutes! - why do manufacturers have to make laptops so damm awkward?

My older Dell lappy has a little triangular sliding release lever on the bottom that allows the cd module or battery pack to just slide out for replacement.

Extra battery or cd modules are interchangeable on this one.

This info may not help you at all !

Thanks for that nsisman, but no such luck - I think I will contact Medion - they can only refuse to answer cant they? - its well out of support now so they have nothing to gain....
