What is this odd game that gets you blokes so excited?
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/06/24/...in1749335.shtml
We have something like that we call "soccer" which 7th graders (early middle school) play, then graduate to real sports.

TIA

dukes up! biggrin.gif

I'm sure we'd be into, as they call it "football", if there were commercial breaks. Then the media would feature it.

This week, the big sportz story here it the National PaintBall Champitionships. (what event could possibly be more urgent to follow?)

You'd never know the World Cup exists here, unless you're a golfer.

Now, a World Cup of Fishing. That would be a worthwhile sport!

The WCF! Yeah.

When I realized that you guys where playing football with your hands, I understood a lot about USA.
When I saw "world series" or "world cup" where only with US teams where competiting, I had to hide my smile.
Jay you are probably disoriented because this Football is played with feet, by all-over-the-world teams.
You will get used to it within the time the US team succeed beating the Ghana ! wink.gif

Actually, No..... I just find Football, basketball, soccer, and baseball stupid. (Basketball taking the cake for the most stupid)
I define sport as an individual activity, not a team one.

Right now I like soccer, because France is still in the competition (so does England), but this could change very fast.
You would probably also have start to watch the games if USA made it to the 1/8th final. I am sure we are NOT very different, and stupid enough to waist our home-automation-develloping-precious-time watching people in short pants running around.

I hope you two realize I was just having fun.

The reason that it will not succeed here has nothing to do with the sport being uninteresting to us.

Quite simply, the game is not structured for commercial breaks and the networks will not go to the expense to cover events from which they cannot derive income.

If it's not available on TV, there is no audience to get excited about the game.

As a follow up and by far the most obvious is the technical term "Football".

To you lot "over there" that means using your hands, to the rest of the "normal?" world... Football means using your FEET.

I find it boring, nevertheless. The beer commercials are another thing biggrin.gif
