What is up with the rising cost of plugins? I am speechless.... well maybe not smile.gif

I just went into the Updater today. I have not been in there for quite some time and I noticed that the cost of plugins of on the rise. What are the plugin authors and HST thinking? Being customers and users themselves, plugin authors should know that users are always looking for the best value for least money in their plugins. At least that is my take on it.

The only plugin that is exempt from this is the ACRF plugin which I feel is a neccessity. My system would not function without it. But some of the other plugins (Message Server, DooMotion, WAF-NetCallerId, Media Player). Come on let's get real here. I know that I would never pay that much for those plugins. I certainly would not pay for two of them because I have written my own versions of those smile.gif

I just feel like this hobby (and that is what I think it is) is becoming a greedy business. Over three years ago when I started using home automation it was VERY different.

Sorry for my rant, but this is my .02

Well you know my view on this.... Money is tight for everyone and as you say "this hobby" is getting quite expensive.

That said, its nice to have quality stuff and new plugins add to the overall impact of the home automation enthusiast.

I would LOVE to buy the message server plugin and to be honest, theres a few others I would like... but as they are not "must have" plugins I cant justify the cost.

When I first spoke with Bob about his router monitor plugin my main gripe was cost.. it was only then that I realised HST was bumping the price up quite a bit.

*** Please note*** I DO understand that HST MUST make money, they are a buisiness after all, I understand that plugins sold by other people that are competition to THEIR own plugins should not be advertised on their forums.

It just seems that theres some big movement against the core people that provide functionality for Homeseer.

Imagine YOUR system without ANY plugins other than HST ones???

I know I have plugged Bobs plugins on HST forums and perhaps Im wrong.. I dont know, my intention was to highlight CHEAP plugins that are well supported (Bob adds features pretty darn fast) and good.

His new BLMediaPlayer plugin is taking shape and is going to be a top seller for him, priced at 9$ (I think) or 9.50$ compared to hst`s offering.. I think this one will make people realise HIGH COST dont always mean THE BEST.

And thats my 2 cents worth

There was once a time before plug-ins.
When plug-in's were announced, I said it was a baaaaad thing.
Now look where it has gotten us.

Major HS contributors have left in disgust.
But... we do have a MARKETING manager....lol
