Lost my entire hard drive/backup drive yesterday partly due to age and a very tired set of fans. Went out and picked up (in annoyance) a P4 3Gig/200 Gig/1Gig to act as my HS/Encoder/etc server.
Alas I lost ALL my files and have only painstakinly started restoring drivers for all the peripherals. Had to download HS ver 1.7 but I'm getting the famous" cannot find xml" ? message. Browsed the HS board for answers but theres nothing concrete there. Remember this happened in 2002 but cant remember how it was resolved.

Any ideas????,,,,,,

since you lost your original, I guess you're referring to '\Program Files\HomeSeer\config\sample.xml' that came with the new HS DL?

Yes. I have a blank window pane where all the sample devices/events were on initial startup, as well as the drop down menu for locations, groups, all, etc.

I opened up with notepad.....no devices, just the startup/self check strings. However I found a backup copy of my hs files on a different computer(yipeeee) and I have transfered them to the new system. How do I get the newly installed hs to point to the backup files?

HA !! Got 'em all back. A few files deletions and renaming and I have most of my devices from 2003. Not bad............. biggrin.gif That saves me at least an hour of creating devices. (Phantom does happy jig)

Thanks Jay

P.S What a difference running a 3GHz processor. I'm running encoder/hs/cam software/webserver/Dual monitor/Security system and I'm only at 40% CPU usage............... ohmy.gif
