Ok I had a harddrive go bad on me and had to redo my computer that I was running Win Media encoder on. I remember having this exact same problem a few years ago when I first set up my media encoder, but can't remember how to fix it. I do remember skibum or someone else help me fix it. I'm running WinXP Pro SP2 with a ATI All inWonder card. Have all the latest drivers from ATI. When I try to start win media encoder I get the following message: "The Parameter is Incorrect" error: 0x80070057 any ideas how to fix this error..
Thanks,
JMan

OK are you getting this message when you open the encoder, or when you open a PROFILE?

yes, I believe Ski's referring to the choice of pushing to a Windows Media server.
Use the pull from encoder option instead, if you are.

I'm using the pull from encoder option. I go all the way through the profile setup and when I get to "Finish" and try and start the encoder, is when I get the error message. Damn I remember this happening in the past, but can't remeber what I did to fix it.

Next thing to try.
Narrow down the issue. Configure a profile with ONLY audio... see if that is OK, then try a video only profile, see if that's OK....

Well it apears that my problem is with the audio, but I can't figure out where. I tried a different computer to setup encoder on and got the same error message on that computer also. Video worked fine, but when I tried to stream the audio, I got the error message on both computers. I got tired of trying to figure it out, so I loaded Ivista to try that, but got this error message from IVista. "Ivistaacapture" Wavein:20: "The specified format is not supported or cannot be translated. Use the capabilities function to determine the supported formats. Error message on both computers with different hardware. Any idea what is happening here.
Thanks,
JMan

I think that I read that IVista will not work after SP-2... not absolutely sure.

RE: Media Encoder

How about posting the profile that is giving you issues. Let's have a look see.

Not sure that I have a profile that I can post or even if it would do any good if I did as I'm pretty much just using the defaults when setting up the profile to get started. Although I have noticed that under the audio properties it does not give me any options to change to my capture device or sound card and I know that the devices are installed properly. Could this be a SP2 issue for WM encoder also? I sent Ivista an e-mail with the error that I got from their software still waiting from a reply from them. I'll let you know what they say.
Thanks

WM encoder has no issues with SP-2.

So you are saying with the new session wizard, you get no choices in the audio dropdown?

Man this is like a Bad Dream!! All my issues were with SP2 I removed it and Ivista worked fine and so did Win Media encoder. Now I'm back to a problem that I had when I first starting doing this a few years back. My Win Media encoder displays the video, but it's all green! I remeber this exact same thing happening when I first set this system up, ATI all in wonder card and win media ecoder. I hate to be a dumb A and I swear I searched around on google to see how to correct this before asking you guys, but I can't find it. I swear this is like living a bad dream all over again. Ski can you remember what we did the first time to fix this green screen thing with the ATI all in wonder capture card. I can use the ATI Media center to display the video fine, but when I pump it through Win media encoder it's green.
Thanks again for all the help..

WAIT A MINUTE.. HOLD EVERYTHING!!! I think I just found out another problem a it's a big one. I've been trying to set this all up through remote desktop and that's why none of my devices and win media encoder would not work and I thought it was SP2.. Man am I dumb!! I'm thinking about reinstalling SP2 to see if that will fix my green screen problem, but want to hear from you guys first. My whole reason for using remote desktop, was I wanted to put a computer box behind my TV out of sight and stream my cameras through that computer and use it only for that purpose. Can this still be done, or am I out of luck with this idea..

I am not by any means sure, but I think you are out of luck with video and remote desktop. (Really not sure)
