Funny I saw this right after shopping online for a new thermostat. We're on propane, I can't recall the price per gallon (or whatever), but I do know if cost about $400 bucks to fill the tank (ouch).
Out here on the left coast they like to build homes with high ceilings, just like my house. Every winter I look up at the heat and lost energy. This post has been edited by Shawn: Dec 22 2007, 02:42 PM -------------------- |

Shawn, how about ceiling fans to circulate heat back down? Drop ceiling? |

Right you are Jay; we actually have ceiling fans throughout the house. Although it does seem a bit counter intuitve to have a fan running when it's cold outside....last summer I forgot to switch'em back to "foward spin" for awhile.

BTDT
Hmm. Project. In winter, have HS2 turn on and reverse fans to down when calling for heat. |

Well I have one of those programmable ones. I used to drop the temp down during the day but not so much that I am retired. I however still drop the temp down to 60 after 10pm and back up to 68 at 7am then back down to 66 for the daytime at 9am (shower time is warmer). We use a mattress heating pad... one of those microwire ones. Just keeping it at full low and the heavy comforter we have keeps us toasty all night. The furnace stays off all night. Thats a full 9 hours off. The temp drops to 62-65 depending on the temp outside. Sure helped the gas bill for us

About half of the winter the AC is still running. The other half, off during the day and 70 at night.
